Fiction Fix Writers'
Guidelines
Fiction Fix is a monthly publication for aspiring novelists and short story writers. Current circulation is over 5000 subscribers. Fiction Fix provides insightful how-to advice for fiction writers. Our topics cover the various elements of fiction writing, with a focus on ways for writers to strengthen their skills. We prefer specific, targeted articles that help a writer roll up his sleeves and get his hands dirty in the craft. For example, tell us how to characterize a villain rather than writing generally about characterization. Give 6 examples of wordiness and how to correct it rather than writing about self-editing skills. We are also interested in articles about marketing fiction, including market research, successful cover letters, and novel proposals. We sometimes interview well-known authors for profiles. We do not print fiction or poetry. We are not interested in product, service or website promotion articles. All authors receive a 60-word bio, which may include links, and any self-promotional information should be limited to the bio. However, links within the body of an article which are informational (not promotional) are acceptable. Fiction Fix embraces a friendly, straightforward writing style. Share your own writing experiences. Convey solid, informative material with a light, personable touch. Writers agree to have their materials archived on the Coffeehouse for Writers website, although the author retains all rights after publication. While we may archive previously published articles, we will gladly remove an article from our archives at the author's request. We accept reprints of previously published articles, but ensure you are not violating another publication's copyright. General Guidelines 1.) Please query before you send your article. Send all queries to Carol Lindsay. Don't query asking what sort of articles we need. We expect writers to come up with their own ideas. Don't expect us to generate them for you. 2.) Submit articles as TEXT ONLY or
RICH TEXT FORMAT (.rtf). If you are sending a text only file, please be
careful to disable any "curly quotes" and reformat your article after
converting to text. Send articles back to Carol. 3.) Single-space your text, but please double-space between each paragraph and do not indent paragraphs. Don't double space after each sentence. (It's a hard habit to break, but it can be done.) 4.) Provide your full name as you would like it to appear in the article, as well as copyright information. Please let us know if you would like us to include your email address for feedback. We also require a brief (60 words or less) writer's bio and your postal mailing address. 5.) Word count: maximum of 1500 words. 6.) Deadline: Articles must be received by the 10th of the previous month. Articles received after the 10th will be considered for a later publication. |
